In an emotionally charged announcement, the family of 14-year-old Jonathan Debnam from Shortstown expressed their deep sorrow and grief following his tragic death. Jonathan was fatally injured in a collision with a bus on the A600 High Road, located just outside the village, on Thursday, 4 July.

Family's Heartfelt Tribute
The Debnam family released a statement mourning the loss of their beloved son. They said, “We are truly devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved son. Jonathan was a funny, kind, and intelligent boy who loved his family and friends with all his heart.”
Jonathan’s life, although short, was filled with aspirations and accomplishments. He had developed a passion for cooking from an early age and aspired to become a chef. He was also known for his love of animals and his active involvement with the Army cadets.
His parents recalled his enthusiasm for cadet camps and how he dedicated his time to teaching first aid to fellow cadets. Jonathan’s ambitions went beyond personal achievements; he aimed to build a career focused on aiding others. He had plans to join the Disasters Emergency Committee to help people in times of crisis.
“Above all else, he had a beautiful and caring soul and will be missed by all his family and friends more than words can express. Rest in peace our sweet boy,” added the grieving family.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit conveyed his condolences: “This is an incredibly sad incident, and our sympathies are with the friends and family of Jonathan.” The police are appealing to the public for any information related to the crash.
Authorities are particularly interested in any witnesses who saw the collision or events leading up to it. They urge anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around the A600 in and around Shortstown during the time leading up to the accident, which was reported just before noon, to come forward.
