However, as the sun began to set over Bedford Park, the stage was perfectly set for an unforgettable evening. None other than the legendary Nile Rodgers was about to bring his magic to the Bedford Summer Sessions, a man whose influence on the world of music is immeasurable, extending even to those who might not realize it.

After enjoying a vibrant performance by Avril Lavigne on June 29 and a relaxing evening with James on July 6, the following Sunday was earmarked for some quality family time. Little did I know that this time would be spent in the heart of Bedford Park, where the atmosphere was electric, courtesy of DJ Spoony, a celebrated Bedfordian in his own right.
With the sun peeking through sporadic clouds, excitement buzzed through the crowd as they gathered for an evening filled with promise. From festival-chic to full-on disco attire, everyone was energised by DJ Spoony’s eclectic mix of disco, funk, soul, and UK garage, which set the perfect tone for the night ahead.
Star-Studded Line-Up
Opening the night’s musical journey, the lively and emotive pop band DECO captivated the audience with their infectious energy. Their set, while short, set the tone for the evening, leaving the crowd wanting more.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor then took the stage, transforming Bedford Park into her own personal kitchen disco. With a blend of her hits and popular covers, Sophie’s performance was a delightful prelude to the main event, characterised by exuberant dance moves and infectious enthusiasm.
