Bedford Borough is calling volunteers to join a clean-up crew to help tidy up after this weekend’s Bedford River Festival.
A Collective Effort for a Cleaner Festival
The Bedford River Festival, an event that attracts around 300,000 people across the weekend, brings joy and celebration but also leaves behind a significant amount of rubbish and litter. Due to the huge task of cleaning up along the river and at the locations of the festival events, Bedford Borough is calling on local residents to step up and lend a hand.
Join the Clean-Up Crew
Meeting at Russell Park Event Control Marquee, next to the main stage from 6:30am on Sunday 21 July, volunteers will assist in keeping the festival as sustainable and clean as possible. By participating, you’ll be part of a collective effort to ensure that the festival grounds are pristine and ready for the second day of festivities.

Weekly Garden Maintenance Sessions
Bedford Borough Council also offers other opportunities to get involved in the community. Local volunteers can participate in weekly garden maintenance sessions every Friday from 12pm till 2pm. These sessions involve various gardening activities such as planting, clearing, and woodwork at the Green Man community garden located behind Addison Howard Park, Kempston. Volunteering at Harrold Odell Country Park
Every month, Harrold Odell Country Park holds a conservation task day which includes tasks such as habitat management, tree planting, and hedge work. Upcoming dates include Monday, 29 July, and Monday, 19 August. There are also opportunities to volunteer on a more regular basis around the park between 9am and 3pm from Monday to Thursday. These opportunities are open to volunteers of any ability and skill level. Refreshments, gloves, and tools are provided, but volunteers should bring a packed lunch, sturdy steel toe-capped footwear, and suitable outdoor clothing. Teen Volunteering Opportunities at Local Libraries
Bedford Borough libraries are seeking young volunteers aged 14-18 to help out with their annual summer reading challenge. Tasks include encouraging children to join the summer reading challenge, discussing books, and handing out rewards.
