In a heartwarming display of determination and community spirit, 9-year-old Eloise Perry from Bedford has far surpassed her fundraising goal for the homeless charity Shelter. Eloise's inspiring feat of swimming two and a half laps at Box End Park near Kempston has garnered wide admiration and significant financial support for a cause close to her heart.

A "keen swimmer," Eloise initially set a modest target of £250 on her JustGiving page. However, her incredible effort has seen her raise over £800 at the time of publication, more than tripling her initial goal. Eloise's swim covered 2070 meters in open water, and it took her an impressive 46 minutes to complete.

The Journey Behind the Swim

"The water when I first got in was quite cold but once I started swimming it was fine," Eloise told us. "I found it very fun and I loved the support of my friends and family along the way." Indeed, the swim was entirely Eloise's idea, inspired by her cousin Charlie Perry, who recently completed the 'Longest Day Golf Challenge,' raising over £2000 for Macmillan. Eloise felt motivated to embark on her own charitable endeavor.

Support and Preparation

During her swim, Eloise was joined by her supportive father, who swam alongside her to provide moral support. "He was always right there by my side," Eloise remarked gratefully. Despite only beginning open water swimming in June, Eloise's dedication saw her join the Bedford Swim Squad and take on this challenging feat.

Future Plans and Continued Support

Eloise chose to support Shelter because of her growing awareness of homelessness in Bedford. Her compassion doesn't stop there; she is already planning her next fundraising venture. "I am thinking of doing another longer swim next year to raise money for Parkinson’s UK in memory of my grandpa," she revealed.
