The Evolution of PBIC
Originally known as the Polish British Integration Centre, PBIC primarily focused on supporting the Polish community in Bedford. Over time, it has expanded its reach to assist migrant communities from various parts of the world, reflecting Bedford's increasingly diverse population. Zofia Brady, project officer at PBIC, remarked, "Polish Heritage Day gives attendees the opportunity to support many local Polish businesses, artists, and organisations while celebrating our rich history and culture."
A Showcase of Polish Talent
This year's Polish Heritage Day will be a grand celebration of Polish talent, featuring performances by local artists. One of the highlights includes a performance by the award-winning singer, Katy Carr. Katy, a British singer-songwriter who spent the first five years of her life in Poland, is renowned for her music that reflects Polish history. She has released six albums, with her music often exploring the Polish experience during WWII and stylistically echoing that era in European history.
Adding to the excitement, there will be a talent show showcasing students from John Paul II’s Polish School in Bedford. This segment of the event promises to be a delightful exhibition of young talent and cultural pride.
Polish Food and Fun
One of the most enticing aspects of Polish Heritage Day is undoubtedly the food. Visitors will have the opportunity to savour traditional Polish delicacies from local vendors. As someone who previously explored Polish cuisine when guest editing for the Bedford Independent, I can attest to the richness and variety of Polish culinary traditions. You can read more about my gastronomic journey and recommendations here.
In addition to feasting, attendees can participate in free Polish-themed art workshops provided by PBIC's partners, Art School Tsymbal. These workshops are run by Sergey and Maria Tsymbal, Ukrainian artists who recently sought refuge in Bedford. Their sessions promise to be a blend of cultural exchange and creative expression.
Join the Celebration
PBIC extends an open invitation to everyone to join this vibrant celebration of Polish heritage. With free entry for all, the event is designed to be inclusive, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. "We hope that everyone enjoys celebrating our heritage with us – there’ll be something for everyone and we at PBIC are honoured to be hosting this event once again," added Zofia Brady.
